Imagine unspoilt waters with great visibility, a constantly changing scenery of icebergs that nobody has seen before in that form, inlets that have never been dived before, not seeing another dive group for an entire week. You could be dreaming of Greenland! Cozy guesthouse included and all meals in Greenland and an excellent opportunity to see the Northern Lights.
Some information about Greenland:
The first people to set foot in Greenland arrived around 4-5000 years ago from the North American continent via Canada when the sea froze in the narrow strait at Thule in northern Greenland. No less than six different Inuit cultures have immigrated in several waves. Greenland’s population today is descended from the last immigration, the Thule culture, which arrived in around the 9th century AD. One of the things people who travel to Greenland want to see, alongside the Northern lights, are the fantastic Icebergs.
Some information about Icebergs:
Icebergs consist of heavily compacted snow that fell on the Greenlandic ice cap several thousand years ago – in some cases more than 15,000 years ago. The ice cap is in a constant state of change and movement, and every year it produces thousands of icebergs that are primarily formed in the sea from glaciers in the central and north-western region of Greenland and on Greenland’s east coast. They are present throughout Greenland’s waters, but the areas around Ilulissat and Uummannaq are particularly well-known as the source of many large icebergs that break off the glaciers in the deep fjords. Icebergs are found in countless different shapes and sizes – it is not uncommon to see icebergs that contain beautiful openings that form beautiful passages to sail through.
